Outreach / Prevention

Through outreach activities, the social work team together with peer educators regularly visit women in the entertainment sector, transportation areas (such as bus stations and boat piers) and villages at risk.

The objectives

• Distribute leaflets and information on prevention of trafficking and sexual exploitation.
• Protect and advise service women and offer alternative employment opportunities.
• Gather information on high risk areas.
• Distribute hygiene materials.

These visits are a very important step toward gaining victims' trust in AFESIP, without which the organisation would be incapable of providing assistance to women and girls in need. Through developing rapports with women and girls the outreach team informs them about AFESIP’s services, providing them with an exit strategy from sexual exploitation.

In addition, the outreach team can identify trafficking victims and elicit information about the brothel or place of prostitution.

AFESIP focuses its outreach activities in Vientiane, Savannakhet and Champassak provinces and other provinces in the north including Udomxay, Luang Namtha, Bokeo, Xieng Khuang.
